Collagen represents the main component of the extracellular matrix of the dermal connective tissue and its concentration decreases as we age. It is known that the loss of collagen is not only due to a reduction of the synthesis but also due to its enhanced degradation.
The enzyme called MMPs are mainly responsible for collagen breakdown and inhibition of new collagen formation in the skin. Exposure of the skin to UV radiation results in the upregulation of several different MMPs and the repeated upregulation of these collagen-degrading enzymes over time is thought to underlie the collagen damage that is one of the hallmarks of photoaging. Transforming growth factor (TGF-β), a member of a large family of secreted peptide growth factors, is known to play a prominent role in the accumulation of ECM (extracellular matrix) components by increasing the expression of ECM genes, such as collagen, elastin, fibronectin and proteoglycan.

In vitro Efficacy

In clinical Efficacy
In a clinical study with 21 Asian healthy female volunteers (Korea), aged 30 to 65, 2 % formula containing Myrisoyl tetrapeptide-34 had been applied twice daily during 12 weeks on the face area. Evaluation was performed by Transparancyprofilometry analysis using visiometerSV600(Courage-Khazaka electronic GmbH, Germany) and digital photography.
Myristoyl tetrapeptide-34 showed significant improvement in all the parameters measured and proved to be the powerful anti-wrinkle agent.
In a clinical study with 30 Asian healthy female volunteers (Bangkok), aged 35 t0 60, 20 ppm containing Myristoyl tetrapeptide-6 had been applied twice daily during 12 weeks on the face area. Evaluation was performed by replica analysis (Evaluation of the anti-wrinkle effect).
Myristoyl tetrapeptide-6showed excellent improvement on fine lines, wrinkle area and wrinkle length in vivo.
